The Bowers Institute
The home of Design Challenge Learning
The Bowers Institute helps teachers bring Design Challenge Learning into the classroom. Building on what we’ve learned from more than 30 years of hosting The Tech Challenge, we help teachers develop their students’ problem-solving skills.

This center houses The Tech Academies, an in-depth program helping Silicon Valley educators understand how to incorporate engineering design into their curriculum. It also produces dozens of professional development workshops every year. In all, the 1,182 educators we’ve trained are supporting more than 30,000 students every day in the classroom, and that number grows every year.

What it costs
  • Endowment: $20 million ($4 million secured). A contribution at this level would provide $1 million a year in perpetuity to operate this program.

  • Supporting educators to develop the next generation of problem-solvers

  • 30,000+ students reached each day by our network

  • Ten local school district partners

  • Helps build equitable practices in the classroom
“Engineering design thinking has transformed our teaching and learning in all content areas and beyond.”

 — Magdalena Moore, principal, Meadows Elementary School
